Qatar is one of the world’s top LNG exporters, exporting billions of litres per day of LNG through the Strait of Hormuz alone in 2024. Qatar also has new LNG pipelines opening up in Syria, and supplies between 12% and 14% of Europe's LNG. State-owned QatarEnergy has long-term supply contracts with Britain's SHELL, France's TotalEnergies and Italy's ENI.

Additionally, the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is an EU policy that places a carbon cost on goods, aimed to level the playing field for EU producers and encourage global decarbonization.
